“Everything You Know Is Wrong” sounds like the anthem for a Vortox, and so it would be simple to make a Vortox-only script. However, let’s go further, and see what other Demons we can add. Vortox and Legion are a well-known pair thanks to correct Legion information sounding like Vortox’d information. No Dashii allows for a lot of the grim to be poisoned, but if we’re going to make everything wrong, why even have an Evil team? Let’s put in an Atheist.
From here, the next biggest decision is whether or not to include the Drunk. Drunk becomes an incredibly fascinating character with Vortox, as it turns a Townsfolk into an Outsider, making them no longer get Vortoxed information, but a Drunk existing on the script greatly changes how the Atheist plays in ways that I don’t enjoy. It means that now not only does the Atheist need to convince everyone that it is an Atheist game, but also that the Atheist needs to meta the Storyteller as to whether they are the Drunk or not. If they are the Drunk Atheist, going for their printed win condition will actually lose the game instead of win the game (as opposed to a Drunk Alsaahir or a Drunk Cult Leader).
But what if the Atheist is the Marionette? Whether or not the Atheist is the Marionette, pushing for their win condition will help them win, so they are incentivized to do so. This means that on this script, if someone claims Atheist, other players will need to evaluate whether they are the Atheist, a face-up Minion, or the Marionette Atheist. Each of those possibilities will have different tells, but all of those tells are direct and can be acted on.
Each of our Demons have some other things they want to put on the script:
The No Dashii really likes having a Scarlet Woman. This allows the Storyteller to use the No Dashii poisoning a little more aggressively because now the No Dashii has an escape plan. Add in the Barber and now you have your choice of Demon escape plans when building the bag. As a bonus, the Vortox appreciates these escape plans as well, and the Atheist appreciates the Barber existing as a reason why people could swap roles.
The Vortox likes having the Monk on the script. Well “likes” is a strong word, since the Vortox doesn’t like someone knowing that they have sober information, but Monk is a nice Townsfolk counter to the Vortox, and it also works well against the No Dashii. The Vortox also wants some information that can easily be un-Vortox’d and some information that can be un-Vortox’d but still lead to some ambiguity.
Legion, when paired with Vortox, likes having a Chef on the script. Again, “likes” is a strong word, but they work well together. In addition, Legion wants an excuse for why some people might be double-claiming each other, and Mutant does that well.
Asking what Atheist wants on a script is kind of a silly question given the concept of Atheist, but there is one absolute classic that wants to be on the script – Lunatic, and some way of obscuring the Lunatic’s Minions so they can’t figure it out right away. While Magician is fun, a Poppy Grower keeps them in the dark for longer, therefore is our best answer here. A Poppy Grower also causes way more reasons for double claims, supporting Legion. Vortox and No Dashii act normally with a Poppy Grower, but a Poppy Grower Legion game honestly makes the game more interesting for Legion. Poppy Grower + Marionette Atheist seems like an interesting interaction.
The script at this point is:
Townsfolk (4): Atheist, Chef, Monk, Poppy Grower Outsiders (3): Barber, Lunatic, Mutant Minions (2): Marionette, Scarlet Woman Demons (3): Legion, No Dashii, Vortox (plus Atheist hiding in Townsfolk)
The next point of order is Outsider manipulation. While Legion and Atheist have arbitrary Outsiders, we still want to have other sources of Outsider manipulation in order to fake other games. Our main choices are Balloonist, Baron, Godfather, Xaan, and Sentinel. Baron isn’t great because we’re not putting Drunk on this script, Godfather isn’t great since we’re aiming for single-kill Demons, and Sentinel is just… well… good if we can avoid it. While Balloonist can be interesting with both Legion and Vortox, I prefer the arbitrary manipulation of Xaan over the limited manipulation of Balloonist.
Xaan is actually a bit of a rough Minion here - it can’t exist in a Legion or an Atheist game, and in a Vortox game it is mostly overridden by the Vortox’s “all Townsfolk info must be false” ability. However, it serves a crucial role in helping a No Dashii game look like a Vortox or Legion game, and just by being on the script it opens up so many worlds. That being said, I would like the Xaan to have another affect in a Vortox game, so let’s put in a Farmer. We don’t have any demonbane roles yet, so this also fits that role very nicely.
Poppy Grower also wants something to help the evil team find each other, and Boffin fits that incredibly well – Boffin turns every townsfolk information role into a role that can help the Demon find their other teammates. However, what can Boffin do when there’s not a Poppy Grower in-play? Vortox Monk can be incredibly disruptive if used well – sort of like a reverse Poisoner. However, there is something very mean we can do.
Fortune Teller doesn’t like being on Vortox scripts usually, but this is one of those situations where Legion provides an alternate explanation that fits in really nicely. However, Fortune Teller + Boffin unlocks a secret mode that works for No Dashii and Vortox. By giving the Demon a Boffin Fortune Teller ability, you need to assign a good player to be their Red Herring. According to the Fortune Teller’s ability text, this player registers as a Demon to you, which means that the No Dashii tentacles skip over that person since they’re not a Townsfolk, and the Vortox won’t mess with their information since they’re not a Townsfolk. It’s mean, but I want to leave the possibility in there.
This how the script looks at this point:
